What Are The Requirements To Become A Licensed Florida Bail Bondsman?

To become a licensed Florida Bail Bondsman, the applicant must:

  • Be a United States citizen or legal alien;
  • Be at least 18 years old;
  • Reside in the state of Florida;
  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent;
  • You must never been convicted or a felony;
  • You can never have been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude, such as fraud;
  • Never been convicted of any crime punishable by more than one year in prison;
  • Florida law requires you to complete 120 hours of bail bondsman classroom instruction with a grade of 80 percent or higher;
  • You must take classes from a provider approved by the Florida Department of Insurance, and
  • You must also take the required correspondence course on insurance and bonds.

Florida law requires that an applicant to obtain employment with a licensed bail bond agent or insurance company. The mentor will then submit an affidavit attesting to the person’s integrity and moral character. He or she will then pass along with their sworn testimony with the application for a bail bond license.

The temporary bail bond license is valid for as long as 18 months, during which time the person must work at least 30 hours per week for 52 weeks prior to taking a final exam and obtaining a full bail bondsman license.
